2014 was an incredible year for both Ice Horse and Ice Horse sponsored riders! We celebrate this year ending with an impressive list of accomplishments by our riders including (but not limited to): 3 newly signed sponsored rider, 4 riders who competed at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, 1 World Championship, 1 non pro coach of the year award, the newly crowned USEA highest scoring horse OF ALL TIME, a USEF Emerson Burr Trophy for the second consecutive year (the highest honor in Hunters), 1 World Champion in Barrel Racing, and a woman who has won a competition no other woman has won: the Pacific Coast Open 20 Goal Championship at the Santa Barbara Polo Club. Ice Horse has worked tirelessly this year to spread the word about our products and enhance the lives of horses around the globe! We have welcomed new partnerships with vets, vet clinics, trainers, riders and tack stores and have expanded sales and marketing internationally with partnerships in Europe and Canada.
The Ice Horse team took 2014 by the horns with rigorous show and training schedules that would make the energizer bunny cringe! But with the help of Ice Horse products, each rider was able to end the year with some impressive titles to add to their list of accomplishments. Kerstie Allen competed in a huge number of events with many wins and awards in 2014. Most impressively, Kerstie was the first woman to every win the Pacific Coast Open High goal competition Championship at the Santa Barbara Polo Club. She was also the only woman to compete at this prestigious event this year.
Fallon Taylor and her well-known mare, BabyFlo, won about a dozen rodeos this year on what she calls the “rodeo road” including two rounds at the National Rodeo Finals in Las Vegas, where Fallon was also named the 2014 Barrel Racing World Champion and was awarded “Best Dressed” for the second Year in a row! Fallon somehow also found time to train and “season” numerous young horses for the future and helped to change helmet laws for young Barrel Racing competitors with her “#Whatthehelmet” campaign. Jon Roeser, another Ice Horse Sponsored rider holding a World Champion title in the Reined Cow Horse discipline, had a very busy and successful year. Jon has been busy riding a group of young stock, breeding at his Ranch in California, and showing the crowd pleasing, Judge Boon, owned by Red Tail Ranch. Jon is currently preparing for the Worlds Greatest Horseman Championship (a title he has already won 3 times: 2000, 2003, & 2004) which takes place at the NRCHA World Championship Show.
Reiner Matt Mills took the year to bring up a lot of young horses including “Gotta Trigger Man” and “Whimps Cool Breeze” both 4 year old stallions to watch! Matt and Gotta Trigger Man finished in the Top 10 in the ultra-competitive $75,000 Shoot-Out at the 2014 NRHA Futurity. Matt Palmer, another Reiner, competed on numerous young and trained horses and won the $3,000 Added Open at the 2014 Summer Slide in on Smart Chic Katie. He also placed in the Top 15 at the Level 3 Open Finals at the NRBC. Mark Rafacz was awarded the NRHA Non Pro coach of the year and continued to grow his business, train his clients, and work with young horses throughout the 2014 show season. Our final Reiner, Tom McCutcheon, competed in the 2014 FEI Alltech World Equestrian games with very impressive scores on his ride, Dun Git a Nicadual and was also the 2014 NCRHA open L4 Co-Championship on “Survivorman”. In 2015, Tom will be focusing on Young Stock and his online horse help website: Virtual Horse Help.
Ice Horse Dressage rider Lars Petersen competed at the WEG, ending up 28th individually and 7th with the Danish Team on his beautiful mare, Mariett. He also won or placed in many other national and international Grand Prix, most notable the CDI4* Grand Prix in Hamburg on Mariett as well. In 2015, Lars will continue to compete with this mare as well as with another great horse, Willano, at international competitions. Olympian Jan Ebeling, our newest sponsored rider, had a very successful “Farewell Tour” with his long-time mount, Rafalca, before officially retiring her from competition in 2014. Jan and Rafalca competed together in four World Cup competitions (2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012), acquired numerous international wins, and were the highest ranked USA combination at the 2011 World Cup in Leipzig, Germany. Reese Koffler-Stanfield and her clients had a great year of showing at various levels, while Reese focused on bringing up Zodion, whom she hopes to compete at the Grand Prix level in 2015. Reese will also be looking to qualify for the 2015 Young Horse Finals with Elancourt.
Ice Horse Hunter rider Hope Glynn, had a great year with her horses, riding Roccoco to a first place finish in the USHJA International Hunter Derby at Sonoma Horse Park and another first place with King’s Peak in the $30,000 WCHR West Coast Hunter Spectacular. Hope took a trip out to the East Coast with various clients and top mount, Woodstock, where she put in some great rounds, ending up 4th at the USHJA International Derby Finals in Kentucky and second in the Franktown Meadows USHJA International Hunter Derby. While on the East Coast, Hope competed against Ice Horse rider Liza Towell-Boyd, who won the 2014 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championships for the second time in a row. This is the first time that any single rider has claimed victory in the prestigious class twice. She was also awarded the USEF’s Emerson Burr Trophy (the highest honor in Hunters) for the second year in a row and was nominated for the 2014 USEF Equestrian of the Year (results have not yet been announced). She also gave birth to her daughter, Adeline. Susie Hutchison, Rich Fellers, Joie Gatlin, and Laura Kraut all competed in international competitions with much success and will be focusing on the show season in 2015. Rich Fellers and his long time mount, Flexible, won the World Cup Qualifying Grand Prix at the Sacramento International Show so we will look forward to seeing what they do in 2015.
Ice Horse Eventing rider Gina Miles moved to a new farm in May of 2014 and will continue to work on renovations and upgrades in 2015 while she continues to train and show new a couple of new horse: SVR Ron (whom she is aiming to take to Rolex 2015) and RF Scotland Yard and RF Lanacapri. Buck Davidson’s year was full of wins and awards including the Jersey Fresh CCI3* with Copper Beach, Bromont CCI* with Be Mine, and numerous wins with his 2014 FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games mount, Ballynoe Castle RN, who earned the USEA highest scoring horse of ALL TIME. Buck capped off his impressive year with a wedding. Congratulations to Buck and Andrea from team Ice Horse! Clayton Fredericks, focused on training the Canadian Eventing team last year and will continue to do so in 2015. Lucinda Fredericks, has an exciting year coming up for 2015. She said “we have lots of clinics organized in the UK and abroad for 2015. A big step for Millie and Marley next year aiming for 2* as well as Cos I will. With the sale of Flying Finish and MR Sydney Rocks to secure Rosegarth, it would now be great to fill their places with a couple of new high level rides.”
And finally, a recap of Chester Weber’s year… Now, we don’t play favorites because we have such an incredible group of people on our team, but Chester has to drive 4 horses at once, which means we have to we have cheer for 4 horses each time he wins. So every time Chester is successful, the entire Ice Horse office is filled with excitement. His accomplishments this year include the Individual Silver Medal in Four-in-Hand Driving at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, as well as an impressive win at the CAI3* Windsor, where he was given a prize from the Queen of England herself! He was the first ever American to win the Four-in- Hand competition at CAIO4* in Aachen, and set an unprecedented dressage score of 30.89 at Kingdom of the Sun CDF, earning himself the nickname, Mr.Dressage.
