Buck Davidson Jumps to the Lead of the Plantation Field Horse Trials

September 23, 2014 |

Yesterday, Ice Horse sponsored rider Buck Davidson and Ballynoe Castle RM took a lead score of 47.7 at the Plantation Field Horse Trials.  They jumped one of 14 double clear rounds in the CIC3* show jumping competition. “He felt awesome,” Davidson said. “I’m not sure there’s anyone who jumped better today. It felt like he was up as high as the standards from fence one.” Davidson has said they have aerated the footing for today’s cross country event, to account for the especially dry conditions.  “There’s such good, old turf here and such good grass cover, and it’s not used for anything else,” Davidson said. “When I galloped today, you couldn’t hear it. The ground is beautiful, and it’s not that long of a course.” We wish Buck the best of luck and will keep you updated on the results.

The 2014 High Roller Reining Classic

September 13, 2014 |

This week marks the start of the High Roller Reining Classic at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  If you’re a reining fan and you haven’t been to South Point; put it on your bucket list.  This hotel boasts five restaurants, a 64 lane bowling alley, full service spa under the same roof as three show pens and air conditioned fly free stabling for 1200 horses! What more does one need! HRRC has a totally different feel than most competitions.  This week will feature both Quarter Horse and Arabians and there will also be a Stallion Service auction.  The environment is competitive but what makes the event so special is that everyone works and plays together.  They stay up until the wee hours of the morning working in the arena on their slides, spins and roll backs, and you’ll find them the next day together in the stands. Ice Horse riders Matt Mills and Tom McCuthceon are participating in the Open Derby – Good luck to you both.

Chester Weber Wins Silver at the World Equestrian Games

September 09, 2014 |

Alas, the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games are over.  The last day featured the FEI World Team and Individual for Four-in-Hands Driving Championship, boasting big names including our very own Chester Weber.  Chester put in a phenomenal performance, clinching the Individual Silver Medal! A native of Ocala, Florida, Chester put in a great cones round with his team of KWPN geldings.  This silver medal performance is his third individual silver at an FEI World Championship.   "I was really pleased; I couldn't ask for more," Chester said. "I was able to put the pressure on on the last day, and that is what sport is all about. I couldn't be more pleased with my horses, and my entire team. The suppliers, sponsors, everyone did a fantastic job, and I am just proud to be a part of it." Though a gold medal was in his grasp, Chester understood the full scope of his accomplishment, adding "Some people call that the bridesmaid's award, but I am really pleased with it. I am so pleased with the horses, and I wouldn't trade them for any other group of horses here. I honestly think I have one of the best cones teams in the world. I will see you again in two years." We are so proud of Chester and our Ice Horse sponsored riders!  We had so much fun at the World Equestrian Games and look forward to the rest of 2014!

Chester Weber Looking for Gold at the FEI World Equestrian Games

September 04, 2014 |

The final week of the World Equestrian Games has been an exciting one.  We are even more excited for the World Driving Championships, featuring U.S. Driver and Ice Horse sponsored rider, Chester Weber.  In 2010, the U.S teams clinched silver, but they have their sights on gold.  The Individual portion for the Four-in-Hands Driving Championship concludes on Friday and the U.S. will be represented by Chester Weber at 2:50pm local time. Combined Driving is much different than carriage pleasure driving.  While pleasure driving emphasizes style, combined driving test both the horse and team's speed, agility, endurance, and skill.  These events can be held over the course of three days.  It truly does challenge a rider's full set of skills. However, if anybody is up to the challenge, it's Chester Weber.  Weber entered these Games having a career year.  In March, he won his 11th National title.  He then traveled across the sea to Europe, where he earned wins at CAI3* Windsor and CAIO4* Saumur. Next he traveled to Germany, earning the biggest victory of his career, in the prestigious CAIO4* competition.  However, while his resume boasts some of the top titles in the equestrian world, he has not been able to call himself World Champion. He looks to change that this week.   We wish him the very best.  Good luck, Chester!

Sponsored Rider Fallon Taylor Sees Big Success in 2014

August 19, 2014 |

We at Ice Horse are very proud to announce that our very own sponsored rider, Fallon Taylor, is now ranked second in total winnings for all Barrel Racers in 2014!  She has amassed $118,170 this year and only trails one rider.  We are very proud to have Fallon on our team and want to congratulate her on her continued success.   Fallon has been a successful rider for many years. She trained Babyflo, who became the 2013 horse of the year.  She is a 5-time NFR qualifier, a Rodeo Houston Champion, and holds multiple arena records.  When it comes to Barrel Racing, there are few riders who can boast the expertise that Fallon possesses. She even offers a series of Barrel Racing Tips here. Perhaps what she is most well known for is her amazing and flamboyant dress at events. She won the Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award in 2013! We wish Fallon the very best for the rest of the 2014 season and beyond.  Thank you for being our sponsored rider! To view the full standings, visit here.

Eventing Nation Tests Ice Horse Tendon Wraps

August 13, 2014 |

Last week, Colleen Peachey of Eventing Nation wrote a review of the Ice Horse Tendon Wraps.  The Ice Horse Tendon Wraps provide compression and support to help reduce inflammation.   She gave the wraps to her horse, Ripley, and then let us know what she thought.  Here’s what she had to say: “I used to think of icing as something that was only done for horses in order to treat an injury or just after they’ve been through a very intense workout or competition. But through education, I’ve learned about the benefits of ice therapy for maintenance and, hopefully, the prevention of injuries. So I was very interested when the opportunity came up recently for me to try out a pair of Tendon Wraps from Ice Horse. Even though my horses are not competing at the upper levels, they can still benefit from a post-workout ice therapy routine. It was fairly recent that I first became familiar with Ice Horse products, and the very unique First Ice technology that they feature. To be quick frank, I was downright fascinated when I learned about how the contents of the First Ice packs turns into a light and fluffy snow when frozen. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some packets to see this first hand. After the pair of Tendon Wraps arrived, I immediately unpacked them so that I could check them out. The first thing that I noticed was the fabric of the Tendon Wraps felt smooth and flexible — like they would conform nicely to the shape of a horse’s leg. And, of course, I had to check out the subject of my fascination as well — the First Ice packs. The pair of Tendon Wraps came along with four First Ice packs. When I picked up one of the packs, I was interested to see that the material inside seemed similar to a gel-like substance—but different. I went ahead and placed the packs in the freezer to prepare them for use. I place the First Ice packs in the freezer during the evening when I plan to use them the next day; the recommendation is to freeze them for four or more hours prior to use. And sure enough, when I run back inside after a ride and open up the freezer to grab them up to use, the packs are filled with fluffy looking snow. How cool is that? I found that inserting the frozen First Ice packs into the Tendon Wraps is extremely easy. They slide nicely into the interior mesh pocket of the wraps, where they are held in place and ready for application. When applying the wraps after a workout, it is recommended that you first sponge down your horse’s legs. This is done because the moisture will allow cold to transfer to the leg more effectively. Placing the Tendon Wraps on Ripley’s legs post-workout is quite simple. First, I pull the Velcro tab that secures the First Ice packs in place. Once the First Ice packs are secured, I pull the Tendon Wrap around Ripley’s leg and secure it with the three outer Velcro straps. The wraps feel slightly stretchy when being applied, and they compress the ice against the leg once put into place. The fluffy snow consistency of the First Ice packs always allows them to mold nicely around Ripley’s legs. And from what I can tell, his relief is immediate. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see how relaxed Ripley gets while standing in his stall wearing the Tendon Wraps. During the first application of the wraps, I noticed that Ripley did not even get a drink while recovering from work; he usually does, but I suspect that this is because the Tendon Wraps do such an effective job at cooling. After leaving the wraps on for awhile, I go back to remove them. The Tendon Wraps are made of Quadrispan anti-migration fabric, and they do stay in place nicely without sliding. The Velcro tabs open easily and don’t require a great deal of pulling to remove. I am very pleased that Ripley’s legs are tight and feel cool to the touch once the Tendon Wraps are removed. I feel no residual heat when I run my hands down his legs. And the best part — even after icing after Ripley’s normal workouts, the First Ice packs still contain a soft, fluffy snow. With the First Ice technology, the packs are designed to stay cold for more than two hours. Also, and please note that I never get tired of being able to point this out, I am very happy to see that the Ice Horse Tendon Wraps are MADE IN THE USA. The Tendon Wraps retail for $99.95 for a pair of two, and you can check them out here. Go Fluffy Snow Inserts (With a Cold that Lasts). Go Ice Horse. Go Eventing.”   Very kind words, Colleen! We are so very happy that you enjoyed our product.  Find out more at Icehorse.net. To read the full review, visit here.
